Thanks so much for taking the trouble to help me with my understanding of poetry in your comment. I have to say that your piece here is simply beautiful – simple in as much as it says so much in just twenty-something words. And here’s me saying I find poetry too wordy! The next problem I have to get over is understanding why poetry has to conform to rules such as Haiku and other disciplines. I consider myself to be too much of a free spirit to be tied down by ‘regulations’! But I’ll save that for another day!
I used to religiously count the syllables – 5,7,5 – when writing haiku, until someone who knew more about the form than me, told me this was meaningless in English. I now try to concentrate on ‘one single impression’, to borrow the name of the new site for haiku prompts.
